I haven't written on this topic for a very long time. Today I'll show you some shots of an almost restored car.
Last summer I bought, painted and installed the bumpers. I did not think that it would take a long time, but I spent more than a month on it. It was hard to find new bumpers at an acceptable cost. In the Autopiter online store, and similar stores selling auto parts for cars that have already been discontinued, each bumper costs at least 5,000 rubles. Somewhere in general 6000-8000 rubles. And about happiness, in a store located next to me, I bought both bumpers, with a total value of 7409 rubles.
The rear bumper is not painted, the front bumper is painted in the Buran color. And this is in a store that does not at all specialize in selling only GAZ spare parts (Planet Auto store). But in the GAZ Machine Parts store (which specializes only in spare parts for GAZ cars and is located across the street from Planet Auto), they asked for about 7,000 rubles for each bumper. Moreover, they "grimaced", they say, we no longer carry such details.
In general, in the end, this is what happened. The pictures were taken on the phone, to which I “turned the head”, and there was no other, so the right side of the picture is blurry.
Then I was engaged in polishing the entire body. It took another two months. I am not a professional car painter, so I painted the body as best I could. When all the layers (primer, base enamel and varnish) dried, a large "shagreen" appeared on the surface. I had to learn how and with what to remove this shagreen. I will talk about polishing the car body in the following articles.
To date, it remains to install decorative parts that are attached to the glue. By autumn it was already cold, and I did not put the details. Details - overlays for ventilation grilles and rubber moldings for bumpers. And before the moldings, you still need to install chrome trim.
Chromed bumper covers in good condition are generally hard to find. On the Avito website, I found used lining for the rear bumper, and paid 8,000 rubles for them. This set of pads consists of three parts. Side parts bought for 3000 rubles. apiece, and bought the middle part for 2000 rubles. The middle lining is damaged, it will have to be leveled. These linings are not chrome-plated, but made of stainless steel, such were installed on the latest batches of GAZ 31105.
